Paracas was the home of many cultures, one following the next, over the course of at least 10,000 years of human habitation.The first people were neolithic hunter gathers, followed by the Paracas, Nazca, Wari (Huari), Chincha, and finally the Inca. That is what makes Paracas special, and there are more than 100 archaeological sites in the immediate area, only 3 of which having been scientifically studied so far…

The Paracas History Museum, founded by Sr. Juan Navarro, who has lived in the area all of his life, is the cultural center of Paracas, and has a fine display of all of the ancient cultures that once called this area home. Also, this is the spot from which specialized tours of archaeological interest take place, and interested academics and other researchers congregate.
The elongated skull of a Paracas culture baby was recently acquired by us at the Paracas History Museum. Failure to act fast would have caused it have become exported on the black market, out of the country.
