The Paracas people thrived up until about 100 AD, when they, or at least the elongated skull characteristic died out. Whether this cranial elongation was solely a ceremonial process, or also involved genetic influence is unknown presently. However, the Nazca people then took hold in this area, as evidenced by the abundance of pottery that is distinctly Nazca, and has been found in profusion.

The Nazca bred with the Paracas for about 200 years and became the dominant culture until about 500 AD, and then were virtually wiped out by an extended drought…
