Just south of where the conventional Paracas tours go in the Nature Reserve are located 2 village sites that date back at least 5000 years. The first, called Otuma, named for the pre-Paracas people who lived there, still shows signs of their shell fish harvesting existence.

About 20 minutes farther south by car is the spectacular bay area of Mendieta, where the remains of subterranean stone houses can still be viewed on a hill, overlooking the sea and sheltered bay.

Only the Paracas History Museum has the expertise to guide you to these two sites, and fully explain the 5000 years of human history that existed here.
